I’ve stopped watching X Factor. I used to enjoy the auditions before they were in front of a huge audience.
As a lapsed viewer by quite a few years (though it is good to watch responses to “take a CHAIR!” on Gogglebox), I have lost touch with who is who in the charts. This refers particularly to Ella Henderson.
I did not realise she came through X Factor. OK, Olly Murs has done well and Will Young, from back in the day when I watched it. Alexandra Burke has carried on working, for instance in stage musicals.
Now it does seem like Charlie Brookers’ 15 Million Merits. (Here’s the song from that great episode of Black Mirror.
What is telling is the fact that Ella Henderson came 6th.
This might be surprising, as she has released a stream of great songs, Ghost, Glow and recently Hard Work.
in conclusion, is a depressing fact for the British music industry that talented singer-songwriters have to come through X Factor as televised karaoke contestants?
